Plumsted Township
is one of only 35 Municipalities in New Jersey to
be awarded grant funding by the State
Department of Community Affairs’ “Smart Future Grant Program” for the
year
2008. On July 17, the Township Committee received correspondence from
the State
DCA Commissioner, Joe Doria, officially awarding Plumsted a Smart
Future
Planning Grant in the amount of $60,000 to establish a Transportation
Circulation Element within the Township’s Master Plan.
Statewide, a total of $1.9 million in Smart
Future Grants was awarded to 35 Municipalities to encourage smart
growth
principles to preserve open space and revitalize Town Centers, such as,
historic downtown New Egypt.
New property tax bills for
2008/2009 should be mailed the first week of August. Property owners
will see
no tax dollar increase in the Township Committee’s portion of the tax
bill. The
School, County and Fire tax increases approved by voters will keep the
total
tax bill about two (2) percent over last years’ bill. This year in
Plumsted,
the new 2008 total tax bills will average an estimated $5,400 which is
about
20% less or $1,400 less than the State average of $6,800 in 2007.
The multi-million dollar new
WaWa store with 24/7 gasoline service will have ground breaking on or
about
August 4th at their Route 539 and 528

intersection
for major traffic safety improvements scheduled for late October or
early November.

August 15 for the Homestead Rebate Program for homeowners
and tenants Mobile
home owners may also qualify. The deadline for senior and disabled
homeowners
to file their Homestead Rebate and Senior Freeze applications has also
been
extended to August 15. More information can be obtained by calling the
