Mega Base Considered For Cyber Command Center
|
|
|
|
The Nations’ first Military
Mega Base of McGuire Air Force – Dix Army – Lakehurst Navy is being considered
by the Pentagon as one of the possible sites for the future headquarters of the
U.S. Air Force Cyber Command Center. The Cyber Command could generate an
estimated 600 high-tech additional jobs and several thousand ancillary jobs
from new businesses that would arise.
Approximately, 50% of Plumsted Township’s 40 square miles of total land
area are within the Fort Dix Military Reservation and as a host municipality
has representatives appointed to attend on-going meetings with Military and
Government Officials concerning the Mega Base. In addition to the positive
economic impacts, Plumsted
Township is positioned to
benefit environmentally from a new Federal Government land preservation funding
program specifically for land areas within 5 miles of the Mega Base property.
Undeveloped vacant land within 2 miles of the
Mega Base would have a priority ranking to be preserved. One of the goals of
this preservation program is to reduce the likelihood of conflicting land uses,
such as, more residential construction that would negatively encroach within
the vicinity of military operations. This land preservation and acquisition
program would be based on voluntary participation by willing land owners who
desire to sell their property after reviewing free fair market appraisals for
the highest and best use of the land.
Last month, the number of
permanently green open space acres in Plumsted increased by 20 acres as the Downs property on Brynmore Road, consisting primarily of
woodlands, was preserved by the Ocean County Natural Lands Preservation
Program. By obtaining the major financial support of the State and Ocean County,
Plumsted has more than 3,000 acres of woodland, farmland and open spaces
permanently preserved from future development. Preserving this land, has not
only prevented the construction of more than 2,000 homes, but has saved our
environment’s natural resources, as well as, saved millions of dollars in
financial resources of our taxpayers in school taxes and public services.
The filing deadline is
August 15 for the Homestead Rebate Program for homeowners and tenants Mobile
home owners may also qualify. The deadline for senior and disabled homeowners
to file their Homestead Rebate and Senior Freeze applications has also been
extended to August 15. More information can be obtained by calling the Tax
Collector’s office at 609-758-2241 ext. 120.

are reminded and encouraged to attend

Egypt. The
