Plumsted’s $525,000 NPP Grant Enters 4th Year

Plumsted Township’s Neighborhood Preservation
Program (NPP) has entered the fourth year of a five year $525,000 State Grant
that the Township Committee obtained from the N.J. Department of Community
Affairs in 2004. The NPP grant provides funding for housing rehabilitation,
business incentive and community enhancement projects within certain boundaries
of downtown New Egypt.
To date, more than $325,000
has been expended on a variety of projects that have enhanced and improved the
downtown, including, 13 grants for housing rehabilitations; 15 grants for
business facades; and 9 grants for business incentives. Community enhancements
include the Welcome
Center walkway; new
benches; planter boxes; landscaping at downtown parks and parking lots. Public
safety improvements include sidewalk installations and repairs, as well as,
brick-styled pedestrian crosswalks. For more information on applying for

New Egypt’s Annual
Fall Harvest Fest and craft show will take place on Sunday, November 2nd,
from 11am to 4pm. The Festival will be located in historic, downtown New Egypt
and held in conjunction once again with the New Egypt Volunteer Fire Company’s
Fried Oyster Dinner. Display and vendor registration in advance is required and
forms must be submitted by October 1st to Main Street New Egypt, 31 Main Street, New

The deadline to register for
this years’ Presidential General Election is October 14 and applications for
absentee ballots must be made by October 28. Voter registration may be done at
Plumsted’s Municipal
Building, 121 Evergreen Road,
in the Municipal Clerk’s office.
The final opportunity to
donate and drop off books for the “Friends of the Plumsted Township Library”
annual book sale is Saturday, October 4th, from 9 am to 1 pm. In
addition to the books, jigsaw puzzles, CDs, DVDs and videos are being accepted.
The site for the book drop off is located behind the New Egypt Historical Museum
on Evergreen Road.
The dates for this years’ Used Book Sale are: Thursday, November 6th,
from 5pm to 7pm for a special “Kid’s Time Only” (only children’s books are sold
at this time); Friday, November 7th, from 2 pm to 7 pm and on Saturday,
November 8th, from 8 am to 2 pm. The Used Book Sale will be held in
the New Egypt High School,

Laurita Winery, the first
grape vineyard farm and winery in Ocean
County and Plumsted Township,
opened to the public on September 20th. Congressman Chris Smith and
Assemblyman Joe Malone joined the Plumsted Township Mayor and Committee in the
Grand Opening festivities that drew more than 2,000 people. Laurita Winery, 35 Archertown Road,
New Egypt, is now open to the general public Tuesday through Sunday from 12
noon to 6pm (Sunday closing is 5pm) and there is no admission charge.
Mackenzie VanDenBogart, a 4th
Grade Student in Plumsted Township, has advanced in the National American Miss
Jr. Pre-Teen Competition and has been named a N.J. State Ambassador with an
opportunity to compete in the National Pageant this November in Anaheim,
California. Mackenzie is fundraising to help pay the expenses. For more

As a result of the new Township Committee meeting
schedule, the dates for the monthly one-on-one personal meeting
sessions with Mayor Ron Dancer at the Library every month have also
been revised. In 2007, meet personally with the Mayor at the Library on
the second (2nd) Wednesday of each month (October 8th)
from 7 to 9 p.m. to discuss local concerns or State
issues. Residents
