Township
Promotes Officer Meroney to Corporal
|
|
|
|
The Township Committee
authorized the promotion of Patrolman Earl Meroney to the rank of
Corporal at its’ October 13th public meeting. Corporal Meroney fills
the supervisory vacancy created when Corporal Matt Petrecca was
promoted to Sergeant, Officer in Charge, of Plumsted’s 12 member Police
Department on September 2nd.
Corporal Meroney was one of
four well qualified Patrolmen eligible for the promotion with a minimum
of five years experience to ultimately prevail in the promotional tests
and interviews prescribed by Department regulation. Three of the four
Patrolmen considered for promotion, including Officer Meroney, were all
hired in 2001 and one hired in 2004. Corporal Meroney has served as
Plumsted’s full time School Resource Officer.
New Parking Lot Bid
Awarded
|
Thirty
(30) additional parking spaces will soon be available in downtown New
Egypt on Main Street as a result of the Township Committee awarding a
contract to the lowest of six bidders, Marlin Construction, in the
amount of $146,665. The Township Committee obtained funding from the
State Department of Community Affairs’ “Downtown Business Improvement
Zone” (D-BIZ) fund to pay for the new parking lot. Construction
is expected to begin within thirty (30) days on the vacant lot located
at 6 Main Street, next to the building that was formerly rented to the
New Egypt Press and Bailey’s Fitness Center. The specifications and
drawings for the new 30 car parking lot, with entrances and exits from
both Main and Front Streets, call for the installation of lighting,
landscaping, benches, bicycle rack, Victorian style clock and an
American Flag pole for a park-like setting. Plumsted’s
D-BIZ funding application was prepared by the Township’s Main Street /
Neighborhood Preservation Program’s Executive Director, Peter
Ylvisaker. The members of Plumsted’s Main Street New Egypt Board of
Directors and sub committees worked together with the Township
Committee in a joint cooperative effort to apply for and submit the
funding application, as well as, the design specifications.
