Township Committee Reduces Fire Tax

The Township Committee reduced the amount of property taxes in the 2010 Fire District Budget following a public hearing at its' March 3rd meeting. The voters had rejected a proposed one-half cent increase on the Fire tax rate amounting to $62,647.

 

The Township Committee reduced the proposed increase of $62,647 to $57,647, a decrease of $5,000. The new fire tax rate will be slightly less than one-half cent per $100 of assessed valuation. Township Committeeman Eric Sorchik, liaison to Public Safety Services, met with representatives of the Fire Commission to reach a mutual agreement for both the amount of fire taxes to be reduced and the respective budget line items.

 

Senior Programs and Events

Plumsted's Senior Outreach Services (SOS) is offering "Mind Aerobics Classes" for ten consecutive Fridays beginning on March 26th for one (1) hour from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Participants will receive information about the mind aging process and learn practice techniques to improve memory. There is no charge for the sessions, however, class size is limited and pre-registration is suggested.

 

The Senior Citizen meeting and activities room is located on the lower level of the Municipal Building, 121 Evergreen Road, New Egypt. Refreshments are served and for more information call: 609-758-2241 ext. 111.

 

The Senior Pizza Lunch and Movie Day is scheduled for Friday, March 19th, from 12:00 noon to 3:00 PM in Plumsted's Senior Citizen meeting and activities room. The cost is $5 and pre-registration is needed (seating is limited) by March 10th.

 

Interactive Website

Plumsted Township's website is becoming more interactive with a feature to make payments online to the Municipal Court.

Planning / Land Use Board Appointment

The Township Committee has appointed local resident, Mark Reme, to the Planning / Land Use Board. Mark Reme is a New Jersey Licensed Professional Engineer and Planner with about fifteen years experience in the Land Development Field. Mr. Reme continues to serve as a member on the Township's Green Technology Advisory Board and Environmental Commission.

Notices & Meetings

Meet personally with the Mayor at the Library on the 2nd Wednesday of each month. The next evening to meet the Mayor is (March 10th and April 14th) from 7:00 - 9:00 PM. to discuss Local concerns or State issues. Residents may call the Library (758-7888) in advance to schedule a specific time for your convenience. The next regularly scheduled public meeting with Township Committee members Mike McCue, Eric Sorchik, Steve Reed, Deputy Mayor Dave Leutwyler and Mayor Ron Dancer is April 7th at 8:00 P.M.
