New Home Construction Declines By
Mayor Ron Dancer February 25, 2002
Plumsted's Joint Planning / Land Use Board reviewed, at
its February meeting, an annual summary of approvals and denials for the year
ended 2001. Quite significantly, the Board did not approve any new major land
subdivisions for the entire year. Additionally, the number of building permits
for new homes declined by 20%.
Since the Township Committee started its Land Preservation
Programs in 1992, there have only been five (5) new major subdivisions approved
in Plumsted Township during the last eight (8) years for a total of 33 new
building lots. The larger housing developments that are just being completed,
such as, Hawkin Pt. and Plumsted Pt., actually obtained their Planning Board
approvals prior to 1992.
The Natural Lands and Farmland Preservation Programs
established by the Township Committee have preserved more than 2,500 acres from
future residential development with another 750 acres pending preservation.
Plumsted Township leads the County in preserving land from residential
development, the results of which, are evidenced by a total of only 33 new
building lots approved during the past eight (8) years.
A late fee of an additional $5.00 will be enforced
March 1st for the purchase of 2002 dog licenses. Township
Committeewoman Ada Roberts, our liaison to Senior Affairs, proposed and the
Committee approved a 50% discount reduction in local Dog license fees for all
Senior Citizens in Plumsted Township.
The first quarter property tax payment date for the year
2002 was February first. Property owners should be aware that all legal means
are exercised for the collection of property taxes that remain unpaid with
interest rates as high as 18% charged.
Free Wood Chips are now available to Plumsted residents at
our branch and leaf recycling drop-off site on Magnolia Avenue on Saturday
