Endorsements And
Grants For Preservation
|
An additional 209 acres of forests
and fields in
Plumsted Township may forever remain in its’ natural state with the
Township
Committee voting, on May 6, to pass a required Resolution of Municipal
Endorsement for the permanent preservation by the Ocean County Natural
Lands
Preservation Program. The two environmentally sensitive land areas to
be
preserved, totaling 209 acres, are the Hyde property, consisting of 110
acres
located off Brindletown and Hockamik Roads and the Jumping Brook
property, 99
acres, on Long
Swamp Road.
Both the Farmland and Natural
Woodlands Preservation
Programs, with the major financial support of our Ocean County
Freeholder
representatives and the State’s Preservation Department, have saved and
permanently protected more than 3,.000 acres of land in Plumsted with
another
1,000 pending future preservation. Environmentally, these land
preservation
programs help preserve our Township’s rural character, water supply and
quality
of life. Economically, the preservation programs have also prevented
the
construction of more than 2,000 homes to save taxpayers millions in
school
taxes and public services.
The State Department of
Community Affairs’ Office of
Smart Growth awarded Plumsted Township a
$50,000 Smart
Future Planning Grant to assist in an effort to engage our residents in
shaping
the future of their Township in general, and the Downtown in
particular,
through “community-visioning” forums specifically held for the public.
The next
community-visioning open public forum will be held during New Egypt
Day,
Saturday, May 17, from 11 am to 4 pm, during the outdoor street
festival in
Downtown New Egypt on Front Street (parallel to Main Street) and by the
Oakford
Lake Park. The Township’s professional planner, David Roberts of CMX,
will be
stationed there with a display table seeking input and opinions. The community-visioning
process is part of the Township’s overall planning efforts to obtain “Plan Endorsement”
from the State Planning Commission and the associated benefits, such as, priority grant
funding for capital projects within the State sanctioned “Town Center” of New Egypt by
renewing that designation for another 10 years. The Town Center designation is key to
establishing a wastewater sewer system to facilitate downtown redevelopment. The Township’s
Plan Endorsement Advisory Committee, under the leadership of Deputy Mayor Mike McCue, will
host a 7 pm public meeting on May 28 at the Municipal Building to provide residents with a
“hands-on” interactive approach to summarizing an overall planning vision for the Township
by compiling a Community Design Guide.
Previewing
and leading up to the June 7-8 Masters World Dog Sport Tournament for German
Shepherds, will be the National Competition to be held May 9 – 11 at the
Township’s Recreation
Park, which was made
possible through the efforts of our Recreation Committee to accommodate this
National Event by rescheduling some ball games. For more information, go to the
official website www.2008masterstournament.com
The next regularly scheduled public meetings with
the new administration of Township Committee members Dave Leutwyler,
Steve Reed, Eric Sorchik, Deputy Mayor Mike McCue and Mayor Ron Dancer

June 4
at
8:00 P.M.
