State Aid Cut Is Nearly 2 Cents on Tax Rate
|
|
|
|
The 2009 Municipal Budget of
$3,615,000, as introduced by the Plumsted Township Committee on May 6th,
reduces spending by $78,000 from last year’s $3,693,000 adopted budget. The tax
rate will increase by two (2) cents, from 9 cents to 11 cents per $100 assessed
valuation ($77 on average), to primarily restore the loss of $147,000 in State
Aid from the Governor’s 2009 and 2010 State Fiscal Year Budgets. With the loss
in State Aid, the Township’s 2009 budget freezes salaries, with the exception
of contractual agreements. The total tax levy, including the reserve for
uncollected taxes, is $1,195,000 compared to last year’s $975,000. For the
average assessed home in Plumsted of $384,000, the total municipal government portion
of the property tax bill will be $422 for the year, an increase of $ 77.
During the May 6th Township
meeting, the Mayor and Committee honored 17 Academic All-American Scholars from
the New Egypt Warriors Football, Dance and Cheer. Nationally, an estimated 1%
of the 400,000 participants in Pop Warner Football, Dance & Cheer
competition meet the 96% grade point requirement to qualify as an Academic
All-American Scholar. In Plumsted
Township, the 17 honorees
represent 15% of the participants. The following students were presented with
certificates of achievement and recognition: Danielle Andreula; Alysha Barnes;
Alex Barnett; Lindsey Brant; Lindsay Carnevale; Koourtney Clyde; Courtney
Dobbins; Danielle Exner; Lindsey Florio; Melany Langhurst; Collin Shanahan;
Danielle Shanahan; Alexander Poch; MacKayla Probasco; Bianca Rinaldi; Alexa
Winouski; and Shannon Young.
