Scholarship Recognitions at State, County, Regional Levels


Three New Egypt High School Seniors are recipients of Scholarship Recognition awards on a State, County and regional level.

At the State level, Alex Hauge, was selected as a semi-finalist in the 15th Annual State-wide Municipal Leaders Scholarship Competition for 2009, sponsored by the N.J. State League of Municipalities that represents all 566 municipalities in the State. To be considered for the Scholarship Award, students were required to write an approximate 500 word essay on the theme “What My Mayor and Governing Body Do Best.”

Caitlin Kelleher, has been selected as a winner of the Ocean County Mayor’s Association Scholarship Award program, known as, “Mayor’s Scholars,” for the year of 2009. Representing 33 Municipalities, the Ocean County Mayor’s Association awards $1,000 scholarships upon the recommendation of the County Superintendents’ Roundtable selection committee, who consider students that have distinguished themselves by academic achievement, interest in history, government and community involvement as “Mayor’s Scholar.”

Within the Comcast Cable T.V. regional viewing area, Jackie Koye, a New Egypt High School Senior, is the recipient of the $1,000 Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Award.

News and Noteworthy

This year’s Relay for Life event, in conjunction with the American Cancer Society, is being held at the Plumsted Township Recreation Park, Brindletown Road, New Egypt, on Saturday, May 30th and continuing through the night to Sunday morning, May 31st.  For more information, click on WWW.RELAYFORLIFE.ORG/NEWEGYPTNJ 

The application deadline for the Senior Citizen Property Tax Freeze program is June 1st. The income limit is $80,000 for 2009. Seniors, 65 or older, may contact the Plumsted Township Tax Collector’s office (609-758-2241 x 120) for more information or call the Ocean County Office of Senior Services toll free at: 800-668-4899.

The mobile Ocean County Connection Office Bus will be in Plumsted Township on Monday, June 1st, 2009, at the Plumsted Branch of the Ocean County Library, 119 Evergreen Road, from 1pm to 3pm. The County Connection provides information, assistance and services directly to the people on location, rather than, the people traveling to Toms River. Among the services are: application processing of passports; photo I.D.’s; senior and veteran services, and much more. Residents are encouraged to utilize this service to ensure its’ continuation in Plumsted Township.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office has completed its administrative review in the matter of Lieutenant George Titko, subsequent to the filing in Superior Court of a civil action complaint against the Lieutenant alleging sexual harassment, that is still pending. The Prosecutor delivered their report to the Township Attorney, who will advise the Township Committee.

Meeting Dates

Meet The Mayor 2009 Schedule

As a result of the new Township Committee meeting schedule, the dates for the monthly one-on-one personal meeting sessions with Mayor Ron Dancer at the Library every month have also been revised. In 2009, meet personally with the Mayor at the Library on the second 2nd Wednesday of each month (next June 10th) from 7 to 9 p.m. to discuss local concerns or State issues. Residents may call the Library (758-7888) in advance to schedule a specific time for your convenience.
