Plumsted Officials Selected For Emergency Management Institute

The Nation’s Emergency Management Institute,
located in Emmitsburg, Maryland, has accepted has a select team of local school
district and emergency first responders from Plumsted Township into a four day
“Multi-Hazard Planning For Schools Course.” The course dates are January 25-28
and provides the team with the knowledge, skills and tools for an all-hazard
school emergency plan.
The course focuses on phases of incident management
and explains how to utilize the National Incident Management System as the
foundation for planning and building partnerships with outside agencies such as
law enforcement, fire and emergency management. Additionally, this course will
provide the team from Plumsted
Township with
opportunities to exercise the School Emergency Operations Plan using the
Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program guidelines.
Plumsted Township’s
team enrolled in the Multi-Hazard Planning for Schools Course consists of
representatives from Plumsted’s School District;
Police Department; Office of Emergency Management; and Fire Company. For those
accepted into the training course at the Emergency Management Institute there
are no course fees and lodging is provided. The “Multi-Hazard Emergency Planning
for Schools” course instructor is Eric Sorchik, who retired as a Lieutenant with
the N.J. State Police after 27 years and was the State’s Emergency Management
Training Officer. Mr. Sorchik, a resident of Plumsted Township, was recently re-elected to the
Plumsted Township Committee.
New Animal Control Officer Appointed
The Plumsted Township Committee, at its’ annual
reorganization meeting on January 5th, appointed Jan Bilyk d/b/a
Whisper Acres, as the Township’s new Animal Control Officer for the year 2010.
Jan Bilyk was the husband of the late Mary Klink, who had served as Plumsted’s
Animal Control Officer until she suddenly passed away last September 10th.

Dog
licenses, with proof of rabies vaccination, must be purchased for 2010. The
Township Committee approved a 50% discount reduction in Dog license fees for
Senior Citizens and certain volunteers. The Township Clerk’s Office issues dog
licenses and provides information on qualifying guidelines for the license fee
50% discount. A late fee charge is enforced March 1st for anyone not
obtaining a 2010 dog license.

Chamber of Commerce Meets at Laurita Winery
|
The Jackson Township Chamber of Commerce will hold
its next meeting at Ocean County’s only winery and grape vineyard farm, Laurita
Winery, in neighboring Plumsted
Township on Wednesday,
January 20th, at 6:00 pm.
Speakers will include the Mayors of
Jackson
and Plumsted Township, Mike Reina and Ron Dancer,
respectively. The State Legislative 30th District delegation
representing both Jackson and Plumsted Township, Senator Robert Singer,
Assemblymen Joe Malone and Ron Dancer. Also presenting will be
Jackson’s Dennis O’Keefe, giving an introduction on the newly formed
Economic Development Council and its approach to bringing commercial ratables to Jackson. Members of Plumsted Township’s
Business and Merchants Association will also be in attendance.
Tickets to the event, which includes a buffet dinner,
