More Cost Controls Result in Layoff and Furlough Program
|
|
|
|
Unfortunately, it has become economically necessary for the
Township Committee to authorize the third layoff of another full-time employee
within the last twelve months, as well as, offer employees voluntary Furlough
programs as additional cost control measures. Furlough programs authorize an
employee to have an approved leave of absence without pay for one or more days
that are pre-approved.
During the February 3rd Township meeting,
Plumsted’s Construction Department Official, Glenn Ricardi, informed the
Committee of declining revenues attributable to the economic recession and
recommended to layoff the full-time administrative Technical Assistant to the
Construction Official and Planning / Land Use Board Secretary.
The Township Committee authorized the full-time layoff and
the closing of the Construction Office on Fridays, with only part-time service
available Monday through Thursday. Residents needing services pertaining to
construction permits or inspections, as well as, Planning / Land Use Board
matters are advised to call for appointments until a part time schedule is
published. The Construction Office / Planning Land Use Board phone number is
609-758-2241 ext. 105 or call the Municipal Clerk’s office at 758-2241 ext. 101.
Until the Monday through Thursday schedule is published, the
Construction Official will be in the office on Tuesday mornings from 9:00 a.m.
to 12:00 noon and on Wednesday evenings from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Furlough Program
Under the
voluntary Furlough program, all salaried employees are offered an opportunity to
participate. An employee may submit a request for a day off without pay to the
Township’s three member Furlough Review Committee, comprised of the Business
Administrator, a Department Head and a Township Committee member, who is liaison
to Personnel, for consideration. If the Furlough Review Committee preliminarily
approves of an employee’s request for a day off without pay, the request is
presented to the Township Committee for final approval.
Shared Services
The Township
Committee continues to utilize and expand shared services with the School,
nearby Municipalities and the County. At the February 3rd Township
Committee meeting, a shared service agreement with the Ocean County Board of
Health was approved to utilize their Animal Shelter Facility. The Township
Committee also authorized the establishment of a Mayor’s Shared Services Task
Force to consider more cost efficient and effective delivery of public services
or purchase of goods.
