Plumsted Township is seeking a qualified candidate for the following two part-time positions:

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

Develop, plan and manage programs and services that encourage economic development in Plumsted Township by working closely with businesses, local boards and organizations, and financial institutions to develop existing businesses and to attract new businesses, services, and industry.

Duties include but are not limited to

  • Redevelopment projects - Welcome Center, others
  • Create and execute strategy for economic revitalization and development
  • Develop, plan and execute community events, meetings and other special activities
  • Produce annual Plumsted Visitor’s Guide
  • Develop and promote outdoor recreation including township parks and playgrounds, Colliers Mills Wildlife Management Area, and Union Transportation Trail
  • Staff liaison to Main Street New Jersey, Sustainable New Jersey, Ocean County Business Development & Tourism, Pride in Plumsted, Main Street Committee, and other organizations

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Strong organizational, communication, marketing, budgeting and branding skills
  • Experience working with the business community and community organizations
  • Experience recruiting and working with volunteers
  • Comfortable working with public appointed and elected officials
  • Event planning experience
  • Willingness/ability to attend weekend, evenings and before or after hours meetings of township/county councils, committee and other public groups

This is a part-time position requiring approximately 15-20 hours per week. 

 

PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER

The primary responsibility of this position is to be a liaison between Plumsted Township and the public.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Working with the Mayor, Township Committee and all of the municipal departments, the Public Information Officer (PIO) will gather facts and prepare press releases for distribution to the media.
  • Additionally, produce printed and video material for dissemination to the public via appropriate media that may include the Township website, news alerts (email and SMS texts), Township blog, social media and media outlets (newspaper, radio, TV, cable).
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the official Township website and its presence on social media.  The PIO will monitor media and advise the Mayor and Township Committee of situations that may require their attention/response such as incorrect information regarding the Township being posted on social media.
  • Develop and maintain a media kit to cover various aspects about Plumsted Township and detailed outlines of various Township services and processes.
  • Staff liaison to Plumsted Township School District and the New Egypt Recreation Program.
  • Willingness/ability to attend weekend, evenings and before or after hours meetings of township/county councils, committee and other public groups

This is a part-time position requiring approximately 4-6 hours a week, which may include an irregular schedule, especially when there is an emergent need for notification to the public.  A regular presence in the municipal building during office hours is necessary to maintain familiarity with the Township processes and its employees.
