Local Girl Scouts Project Milestone!- Plastic Items to Recycled Bench

574 lbs Have Been Collected So Far - Help Them Exceed Their Next Goal of 500 lbs!

Miley and Aniela from Girl Scout Troop 50402 have reached their first goal! As part of their Girl Scout Citizen Science Investigator Take Action project, they collected plastic items all around Plumsted Township. 574 pounds have been collected! Not only will they be receiving a sustainable bench from Trex™, but this project has also greatly helped the environment. Instead of all the plastic collected being dumped into landfills, it is being recycled into a sustainable bench. But they aren’t finished yet! They need to collect 500 or more lbs of plastic items for the next community bench!  They are already 34lbs into the second bench!

In order for them to be able to achieve their next goal, they kindly ask everyone who is willing to help to bring all collected plastic items to any of these participating stores:

  • New Egypt MarketPlace
  • Plumsted Municipal Building
  • New Egypt Post Office
  • Big Woods Nursery
  • The Plumsted Pharmacy

The plastic items being collected are: Grocery bags, Bread Bags, Bubble Wrap, Dry Cleaning bags, News paper Sleeves, Ice Bags, Plastic Shipping envelopes, Food storage bags, Cereal Bags, Case Wrap, Salt Bags, Pallet wrap and stretch film, wood pellet bags, & Produce bags. Please make sure that all items are DRY and FREE of food residue. Collection is through February 1, 2021.

Thank you greatly for helping them achieve this milestone and we look forward to seeing how much more plastic they can collect!
