Message from the Mayor

I am sending out this message - which will also be included in the July issue of New Egypt News. As of today’s date, June 15th, the fireworks contract and insurance coverage paperwork has not been finalized. There will be an update once all of those documents and approvals for our insurance have been completed.

I hope everyone is well and enjoying the "opening" of our community from the controlled environment caused by COVID-19. Overall, our community has survived the last 1 1/2 years much better than other areas of our state, nation and world. I thank you for all you have done to bring us to this point.  Please continue to protect yourself and your families in any way you feel appropriate.

Questions have arisen about the failure of the township committee or township businesses not holding events throughout this last year.  Unless you have been on an isolated island without communication, most communities have been restricted in holding large social events.  New Jersey was a state with such restrictions.  Our community did have Christmas/ Holiday events including a Christmas tree lighting, decorative lighting on Main Street and even Santa in 2020.  As of this announcement, subject to any unforeseen issues, FIREWORKS will be occurring in July at the High School field.  These fireworks are being provided by Animals and Gardens Unlimited -- Mr. Jamey Bohony, New Egypt MarketPlace- The Nevers Family, and Big Woods Farm and Nursery.  This event involves the New Egypt Fire Company, New Egypt First Aid, and the Plumsted Police Department as well as other community groups.  This event is not, nor has it ever in recent years been a township committee event. Both the Animals and Gardens Unlimited and New Egypt MarketPlace have long been major contributors to most of our events—never asking a word of thanks or acknowledgement of their participation.  This will be a fireworks event with local music under the supervision of Mr. Christian Nevers.  No food trucks or vendors will be attending this event.  You are welcome to bring a picnic, snacks, and beverages (No alcoholic beverages will be permitted) blanket and chairs to enjoy the music from 4 o’clock until the fireworks start at about 9:30 pm.

Please support all of our local businesses. Most of them support our community, again asking no acknowledgement.

This fireworks event will hopefully be one of our best. The businesses supporting it would like to not only celebrate the Fourth of July holiday but also welcome back the opening of the community to such local and family traditional events.

Enjoy the 4th and stay safe,

Mayor Herb Marinari
