Plumsted Township Needs Your Help!

Dear Plumsted Township Residents,

For the past several weeks, Plumsted Township has been preparing an application for the 2024 NJDOT Safe Routes to School grant program. Our grant application includes three projects to upgrade our infrastructure for pedestrians, as well as bike riding, in the area surrounding both our school campuses on Evergreen Road and North Main Street. These projects would:

  1. Increase our network of sidewalks by extending the sidewalk on Jacobstown Road from Meadowbrook Lane to Province Line Road.
  2. Enhance crosswalk safety in the areas around our schools with flashing lights at the busiest locations and an additional crosswalk across Evergreen Road at Fort Avenue.
  3. Build a new, dedicated pedestrian and bike riding path. Utilizing the Union Transportation Trail, the paved and lighted path would connect from Jacobstown Road next to CVS to Evergreen Road, across the street from Brite’s Ace Hardware. With connecting points at Miron Street and 5th Street, the new path would also offer convenient access to the schools for residents on Meadowbrook Lane, 1st Street and Platt Street.

We are asking residents to submit letters of support as part of the application process. Sample letter links have been provided below, but you are more than welcome to customize them or write your own. Letters can be returned by email to PIO@plumsted.org or dropped off at the Clerk’s Office window at the municipal building at 121 Evergreen Road.

Thank you in advance for your participation in this integral part of the township’s application process. We’re excited about this opportunity to expand the walk-ability and bike riding capability in the downtown corridor surrounding our school campuses. Should we be successful in obtaining a grant, the next steps would be community input and project design.

Best regards,

Mayor Robert Bowen
