Veteran's Plaque Image

A ceremony held on Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2022, honored both Thomas Chafey of the Revolutionary War and William Binn of the Colored Volunteers of the Civil War. They are buried in Zion and Zoar Cemeteries, New Egypt, respectively. Special thanks to the Binn family who were in attendance at the recognition event. On March 3, a plaque memorializing the pair was set in place in Sgt. David Southard Plaza, in downtown New Egypt.  

Thanks to Al Hutchins, of Al’s Signs, for his donation of the signs located beneath each of the flags, representing the four branches of military service, which fly overhead the same plaza as the plaque. The flags were graciously donated by the honorees listed below:

U.S. Army- Sgt. Raymond Homan, Dick Robb, Edward Almeida

U.S. Air Force- Bible Baptist Church, Big Woods Nursery, George Jagich, Marie Romano

U.S. Navy- Owle Family, Diblin Family, John P. Lyle

U.S. Marine Corps- Calabrese Family, Robert Distelcamp, Grilletto Family
