Pride in Plumsted Events

As autumn arrives, Pride in Plumsted is preparing for two upcoming events. The first is the celebration of the placement of a memorial plaque, sponsored by the Sons of the American Revolutionary War, at the gravesite of veteran Thomas Chafey, in Zion Cemetery, Route 528. Expenses associated with the plaque's production were provided by the Pomeroy Foundation. Although the date has not yet been determined, the celebration will be held at the burial site where residents are welcome to attend, alongside organizational representatives, as well as local, state and county officials.

The second event will take place on Veterans Day, November 11, 2023, at Sgt. David Southard Plaza, off Main St., New Egypt, at 10am. It will commemorate the bombing of the Marine Barracks in Beirut, Lebanon, which occurred on October 23, 1983, with the placement of a recognition plaque, donated by American Legion Post #455. Tragically, the Marine Corps peace-keeping force bombing resulted in the death of 220 marines, 18 sailors and 3 soldiers. This loss of life needs to be remembered.

In addition, the dedication of two new military flags to wave in Southard Plaza, will recognize those remaining branches of military service, which were not previously honored; the Coast Guard and Space Force.

If you are interested and desire to honor the Coast Guard and/or Space Force, please consider donations, of any monetary amount, toward the purchase of  the respective flags for these two military branches. The check should be made payable to Plumsted Township, with Veterans Day, 2023, noted in the memo section. Those donating will be acknowledged in subsequent Pride in Plumsted announcements.

For any questions or further information, please contact Committeeman Leoanrd Grilletto at LGrilletto@plumsted.org or (609) 510-2410.
